I’ve added the remainder of the books I’m giving away to the library page. Below you can see the reason for this event.

So, after about a week in my new place (and having moved all my stuff on Friday) I’m very happy to be back living in Gràcia. I’ve got cool flat mates, no stairs to climb up, and (probably best of all) there’s a set of speakers in the kitchen I can plug my iPod into for cooking music, perfect.
Had a great day today, although a little tiring. I went snowboarding with Tim again last weekend, after going out to a veterinary faculty party of Friday night and arriving home on Saturday morning with enough time to shower before having to leave again.
The plan had been to make pasta tonight for dinner, but in the end I went with (close to) my favourite dish, cottage pie. Which went down really well with my house mates and Juan, Tim and Angela, which was very pleasing. Thanks to everyone who wished me happy birthday and celebrated with me, but now it’s time for bed.
I’ve just moved the first lot of stuff to my new place in Gràcia. Just the essentials really, some bedding, knife set and my unicycle. There are some clothes somewhere too, although I’m not sure where they’re going to go as I don’t seem to have a cupboard. That’s actually kind of perfect in a way, I’ve got way too much crap anyway and now not only do I want to get rid of what I can, but I don’t have space for it anyway.
I’ve also met my other flat mate for the first time, Lydia, who seems really cool (no, I didn’t just write that because she might find this site one day). And just as important as cool flat mates we’re already got off to a start speaking Spanish rather than English, which is a good thing.
I’ve just set UK Auditions live, fixed up all the little extras like the help centre banner and the accounts of a few people who wanted them moved from the preview site. I’ve sent some emails off and am now going to have to continue to promote it as best I can.
So, go have a look, let me know what you think, and if you have a particularly high page rank, a link to it wouldn’t go astray. (-:
So I’ve been thinking a bit, I’m not completely sure what I’m going to be doing in the next few years (or more to the point where), but the plan is to go on to a PhD, hopefully starting next year in either April/May or September, after I’ve finished my masters here in Barcelona.
As I said, I’m not quite sure what I’d like to study, so I’ve been going over my options and trying to work out which area I’d like to work in (that’s right kids, after year 12 it doesn’t necessarily get any easier to answer that question). I started looking at the people I really admire in my field, people like Edsger Dijkstra, Chris Wallace, and Leslie Lamport. They all have one thing in common, they were all mathematicians before they became computer scientists (well, Wallace studied physics, but in Australia that’s probably admirable). Now, in their cases they didn’t exactly have the option of starting in computer science, but the point still stands that all the genius they provided the world with probably wouldn’t have come about if they’d spent their time learning assembly language rather than special relativity.
So perhaps, if I’m going to be the sort of computer scientist (or robotocist or cryptographer) that I want to be I need this sort of grounding in serious mathematics. In short, I think I’m going to see about doing a doctorate in mathematics. Of course, maybe you should ask me next week.
It’s been over a year and a half since I lived in London, and I’ve been back numerous times since then for work. Although admittedly a number of those have been 3 day trips, and once you stick the 3 days of work in there you don’t exactly see a lot of any city like that. I’ve just returned from a few days there (again for work), but I didn’t leave until 19h yesterday so I had a bit of time to wander around and I could go out the night before as well.
My point is, I think I’m finally finding the things about London that I like. Okay, it’s expensive and the people on the street aren’t all smiles and bright faces (except when the sun is out of course), but London’s a big place. So after seeing a DJ set from the Mighty Boosh guys on Thursday night I spent Friday visiting some of my favourite places before heading out the the airport (not one of my favourite places). I had breakfast at Flat White, lunch at Hummus Bros and in between I saw a free exhibition called Monsters Inked at Idea Generation Gallery. The exhibition was a whole lot of illustrations of monsters, the high point for me being a bunch of art done by Pete Fowler who has done artwork for lots of the Super Furry Animals covers.
Last night I went to a club night at The Arches on Southwark Street, where the Mighty Boosh were playing a DJ set. Had great fun and met a cool group from Essex. Before we parted ways upon leaving we were handed Don’t Panic packs, which are basically just envelopes full of advertisements and lists for other club nights wrapped up and made out to be something desirable, quite clever really. One of the guys handing them out then got a snap of all of us with them, yep that’s me on the right in Neil’s jumper.
